My daughter is hooked on Lego movie 2 toys and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Finally, something that interests her that isn’t electronic based!
I fondly remember playing for hours with Lego blocks, my imagination ran wild as I built homes for all of my toy ponies. I started off with little fenced in pens, and moved on to bigger and better buildings like barns and castles. I remember spending countless hours coming up with different things to build.
As an adult I still enjoy playing with and collecting Lego blocks! I am not sure who gets more excited to play with them, me or my daughter who has recently fallen in love.
It started by spending the weekend at a cottage Kevan’s parents are renting for the month of July. We arrived and the first thing out of both my daughters mouths were ” I’m bored, can I use the iPad?” Flustered I gave them the usual speech ” NO! It’s not raining, it’s beautiful out, there is so much nature outside to go and enjoy, go find flowers, or pretend you in the old world of no electricity, DO SOMETHING IMAGINATIVE”
Off they went outside, for 3 minutes! Barely long enough to even see the entire yard space, and tree house that beckoned this big kid to play in.
Again they complained about being bored, and I could feel my blood pressure rising, that’s when Kevan’s father jumped in to the rescue. He showed the girls that there were books, games, crayons and Lego blocks.
The girls were instantly drawn to the Lego blocks, the spent a great deal of time building all kinds of things and actually enjoying themselves!
Lego Movie 2
I being the hater of all things TV and movie based have yet to see the Lego Movie 2, I have seen the first Lego movie and I really enjoyed it. In fact, I have watched it many times on rainy days, or on movie night with the kids, I still laugh at the silly parts and I am eagerly waiting for a perfect rainy day to watch the newly released Lego Movie 2
The Not So Subtle Hinting
During out stay at the cottage Aurora kept hinting towards getting some Lego sets for her birthday (which isn’t until August), she would find ways to sneak in that she needed sets. She wants to be an Enginer when she grows up, and she strongly hinted that perhaps Lego sets would help her become one. Also, “Mom you know it’s almost my birthday, and I only ask for things on my birthday” Which is such a lie! She always asks for things EVERYDAY!
However I found my self trying to come up with excuses to buy Lego sets myself, and wouldn’t you know it, a situation arrived that I could use to bribe the kids with Lego sets! The first night at the cottage hadn’t gone as smoothly as I had hoped it would, Aurora can’t sleep without an ungodly amount of light, while Addie just enjoys playing around until she drops on the spot to sleep.
This mom needed an easy to bed kind of night, I really just wanted to enjoy one night with the adults and stay up past midnight on my own terms. So Kevan and I cut a deal with the girls, go to bed, no games, no crying, no delays, and we would get them each a Lego set the very next morning.
Which Set She Chose
Luckily for us ( I mean the girls) the Cottage was set just outside of the next nearest town which happened to have a toy and hobby store, it was this really cute little shop that had a continence store upstairs, and a hobby and toy shop downstairs. We made our way downstairs to see what Lego sets they might have.
It didn’t take long before Addie got distracted by other cool toys, she quickly changed her mind and got a different toy. Aurora however was dead set on getting Lego.
She found a set she wanted, and we immediately headed for the cash register before either of the girls could change their minds and find more things they just HAD to have.
Here is the set she picked
We told the girls they would have to wait until we got home before they could open their toys as we didn’t want to lose any parts in the car.
The 2-hour drive home nearly killed me, uh, I mean them!
Home At Last
Upon arriving at home, both girls were so eager to go up to their room and play with their toys. I watched as Aurora and Kevan put together Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi and did my best to avoid jumping in and building it myself.
The colours are so much fun, and the characters are just downright awesome in my opinion! I really can not wait to watch the movie, nor for my turn to play with the set. But alas, it has not left Aurora’s site much at all since she got it, she has been busy playing out the scenes of the movie ( lucky girl got to see it in theaters).
I highly recommend getting this set, it was fun and easy to build with great instructions. We got a plastic bin with a lid so that she can store all the pieces safely away with the instruction booklet.
Yes for her birthday we will be buying her many more Lego block sets!
I have enjoyed watching her build and interact with this set, she is using her imagination, and hopefully one day she will follow through with her dreams and become an Enginer. Until then, I am enjoying watching her creativity and patiently waiting my turn to play!
